SOPORPUNGUM

| Category: Large Wasp
|
| Origin:
Forests and meadows of central Europe; not so common anymore
|
|
Distinguishing Features: Looks
rather like the common muggle-wasp, yellow and black, but an adult
Soporpungum can reach the size of a fully grown goose. What
distinguishes it from the common muggle-wasp is it’s sting at the end
of it’s body which is long, green and barbed. The sting is poisonous
causing deep coma, depending on how long the sting stayed in the body
before getting it out, which is very difficult due to it’s barbed
nature. It’s
wings are of a very fine soft membrane which makes it look a little
see-through. When it flies, the sound of it’s fast beating wings is so
high-pitched, that it cannot be heard by wizard ears, because of that,
it can approach and sting anyone. A
Soporpungum lays eggs in holes on trees or branches. Usually 4 – 5
soft eggs about the size of a marble. They all stick together in a round
soft ball. The Soporpungum fertilizes it’s eggs itself, as after the
eggs are layed, a gland that has been producing the sperm will then
become active. The young grow in the soft membrane eggs for about 21
days. Curiously, the grow into a larva and straight into it’s waspish
form within the egg. There is no larva life as such, and no
cocoon-time-span. The first Soporpungum that leaves it’s egg will
insert his sting into all the other eggs and kill it’s siblings. Very
rarely a second Soporpungum survives despite the stinging.

| Nature:
The nature of the Soporpungum is very vicious. It can sense the heat of a wizard’s body and is very eager to suck the warm blood after injecting it’s sting. Even though, the Soporpungum is rare, one or the other has known to be travelling further north across the english channel. |
| Food:
Fir-tree-needles, assorted leaves of plants and trees, blood, blossom-petals.
|
|
Special magical feature and use: The
poison of it’s sting is a valuable ingredient of diffrent sleeping-,
sedation- and anaestethic-potions. Therefore in central europe they set
up small Soporpungum farms to breed them in a save enviroment.
