SEGVENIFER

Category:   Common wizard snail

Origin:

It’s said to have originated in Italy, but it’s now commonly found all over the world. It can survive in cold, hot and even dry climates. But it’s usually not found anywhere, where leafy plants do not grow.

Distinguishing Features:

The skin of a Segvenifer is slimy and this slime is poisonous and very sticky. The colour is grey and it’s also very leathery. It  has a pair of luminous green eyes and two white horns that are slightly bent downwards on it’s head. A Segvenifer can get about 9-10 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.. It also is a hermaphrodite, meaning, it can reproduce itself without another Segvenifer’s help.

The way this is done is, that it lays small soft pale green eggs about 20 of them usually underneath a leaf or on a stem. The fertilizing substance is found in a gland right above the organ that lays the eggs. This gland sprays out an egg-fertilizing liquid as soon as an egg is produced. Segvenifers grow rather quickly. After eggs are laid, it takes only one week for the young to ‚hatch‘. Small one-inch long Seggis are very hungry indeed, able to destroy even large vegetable gardens, even some types of flowers aren’t save of their hunger.

The slime is of course a safety mechanism for the Segvenifer to avoid being eaten by predators. Still, there are a few predators immune to this poison. Which is lucky, cause the Segvenifer really is a pest in the garden.

Nature:

Harmless, except for the slim, that when touched without gloves, causes a very itchy yellow-greenish rash with large pimples full of puss.

Food:

Salad-leaves, and all green leafy vegetables. It’s a pest in the gardens destroying everything leafy one is trying to grow.

Special magical feature and use:

Horns which can be up to 1 - 1 1/2 inches long are used for magical adornment and necklaces.

The slime is usually scraped of the animal and collected in small containers. Once left for a month in an vacuumed container it's consistance is changing to a purple paste which is used to heal simple burns and swellings.
